H20 Playlists - Great Resource

Just found a great resource for my research thanks to to Jill from jill/txt. Similiar to del.ic.ious social bookmark sharing, however, this is creating a “playlist” of what researchers are reading. Very helpful for me to get started and branch out.

Starting the Reading

I’ve started up my new reading list, based on my new (and last I swear) idea for the thesis. Went to the Seattle Central Library, very impressive. Never seen a library quite like it. However, I was disappointed that I couldn’t find several of the texts I was looking for. Perhaps that was from lack of preparation on my part. Better luck next trip.

we’ve got blog
-anthology of essays on blogs and their influence

The End of Books- Or Books Without End? Reading Interactive Narratives
J. Yellowlees Douglas
- focuses primarily on hypertext and interactive reading narratives, via the year 2000, however, seems to have some historical relevance.

The Critical Difference: Essays in Contemporary Rhetoric of Reading
Barbara Johnson
- another essay anthology. meant to oil the old synapses and get me back into the academia mindset.

Also several articles I’m hoping to find the online, full-text versions.

everything you can think of…

everything you can think of is true
before the ocean was blue
you were lost in a flood run red with your blood’s nigerian skeleton crew
everything you can think of is true
the dish ran away with the spoon
dig deep in your heart for that little red glow
we’re decomposing as we go
everything you can think of is true
and fishes make wishes on you
we’re fighting our way up dreamland’s spine
with black flamingos, expensive wine
everything you can think of is true
the baby’s asleep in your shoe
your teeth are buildings with yellow doors
your eyes are fish on a creamy shore

- Tom Waits

Such true words are rarely spoken.

Superman Returns

I have to say that I was impressed. I wasn’t a huge fan of the older franchise. I was always more of a Dark Knight fan, but Singer did a good job. I’ve learned long ago to never go into a Hollywood adaption thinking about the comics, just ignore them, it makes it easier. Same holds true for Supes. What I enjoyed, was how well they kept the character of Superman. They could have brought him up-to-date, made him cynical and darker, mirror our societal mindset, but they didn’t. He was the quintessential boyscout. Plus they kept the super-feats that was common with the Man. So, ignore the comics and the past and enjoy the film. One of the few icons over 50 years old that kids still get excited about.
