Ch-ch-changes

As you can see (or not see if your new) there is some major changes occuring in the site. First, the look. A new theme, with support for widgets, which are those neat little informative gadgets located on the two columns to the right. I am still working on the look here, so you will see more changes.

What’s New?

Translator: This allows people to translate the site into several languages, it uses the Google translator. It will not be perfect, but it will be interesting.

Netflix Rentals: Why I didn’t sign up for Netflix earlier is unknown, it will save me tons of money, and now you can see what I am renting.

Thesis Progress Bar: Exactly what it sounds like, sadly its not very full.

Writerly Docs: Anything I publicly write in Writely will show up listed here.

LFTE: Located under Other Places, this is my new page, Letters from the Earth. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, if so then this is my tribute to Mark Twain, who I grew up reading. One of the most influentual texts I read growing up was a little known piece called Letters from the Earth. Where Satan, an angel who is really the nephew of the more infamous Satan, writes letters back to his brethren about these strange creatures that God had made. I am using this as a creative and theraputic outlet. Hope you enjoy.

Wired News: What if Bionics Were Better?

Very interesting article in a series by Wired. I find bionics to be a very telling look at futurism and the potential/possibilities of mankinds evolution

Hmm…playing around with newsvine, this didn’t work like I had hoped

O’Malley’s Bar

“I am the man for which no God waits
But for which the whole world yearns
I’m marked by darkness and by blood
And one thousand powder-burns”

Nick Cave - Murder Ballands

Melancholy Man

Im a melancholy man, thats what I am,
All the world surrounds me, and my feet are on the ground.
Im a very lonely man, doing what I can,
All the world astounds me and I think I understand
That were going to keep growing, wait and see.

When all the stars are falling down
Into the sea and on the ground,
And angry voices carry on the wind,
A beam of light will fill your head
And youll remember whats been said
By all the good men this worlds ever known.
Another man is what youll see,
Who looks like you and looks like me,
And yet somehow he will not feel the same,
His life caught up in misery, he doesnt think like you and me,
cause he cant see what you and I can see.

Let’s not quibble

NPR : Senate Panel: No Saddam-Qaida Ties Before War:

There is no evidence that Saddam Hussein had any relationship with the late terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi or with al-Qaida, the Senate Intelligence Committee says in a new report.

Some say that this means we entered a war unneccessarily, others believe that we eventually would have gone to war with Iraq anyways. What is not in dispute, is that Bush insisted that our reasons for invading Iraq after 9/11 was Hussein’s threat to the US, via its connections with with al-Qaida and ownership of WMDs. This report mimics others from before the war by intelligence offices. When confronted with questions about this decision;

White House spokesman Tony Snow dismissed the report, saying, “We’ll let people quibble over three years ago.”

Quibble?! To quibble means “to evade the truth or importance of an issue by raising trivial distinctions and objections.” This means that the Press Secretary of the White House considers the reasoning behind going to war or not going to war, between the deaths of young Americans and children of Iraq, as a “trivial distinction”

Whether you agree or disagree with the war, the rhetoric of this administration shows either a dangerous ignorance or callous disregard for the people who are truly fighting this war.
