About
“In the same sense that Jesus Christ stands at the very, very centre of Christian mythology, we have a character in our mythological universe, in our dreamlife as a people, who stands at the very centre of that universe, and that character is the Trickster” —Cree playwright Tomson Highway, quoted in The Trickster Shift
Throughout history society and cultures fall into patterns of unhealthy behavior. Whether it is sloth, ignorance, greed, or pride, these all-to-human patterns have led to the suffering throughout history. In the mythos of almost all cultures exists the Trickster. The chaotic variable that counters the lapses of compliancy in our everyday world. At times this trickster is simply mischievous and destructive. However, most times the trickster acts as a crack in the facade of the world, revealing the truth behind our actions, leading to a positive advancement of our own being.
Rhetoric as Trick
Rhetoric is the act of communicating, however, this does not mean simply vocalizing, it is an act of creation. Rhetoric is the act of truth creation, of presenting an idea or truth, with the intent to persuade, convince or trick its audience into accepting its truth, to share its truth and to spread its truth. The trickster uses its own form of rhetoric to break molds and conventions. To reveal truth for what it is, a constructed belief or group of shared thoughts. The trickster reveals the act of creation uses the very same tools.
