Sad Day for the Intelligent

Just a note about today, the day that Kurt Vonnegut has died. Understand, he was 84, and he would be the first I feel to say that he lived a full and fulfilling life. It nevertheless is a sad day for those who treasure intelligence. He was one of the great trickster writers, a worthy enlistee to the ranks of Twain and others. His dark humor and critical mind helped teach many young people and it will be missed greatly. If you haven’t read any Vonnegut, I highly suggest it. There are some great titles out there, Cat’s Cradle, Slaughterhouse Five, and many more. Do your self a favor and read one sometime soon.

copywriting

So I started my first copywriting job, well, mostly samples to land the job. It is amazing how difficult it is to create original content for such a specific subject, in this case dog toys. There are the obvious sales techniques, appeals to healthiness, emotions. But I found these in other copy around the web. My issue is that I want my copy to be unique, although I know it can’t always be. So I agonize over the final copy, always thinking its just not good enough. Should make for an interesting career : )

Like riding a bike

So, I did my first interview for an article today, on Las Vegas employment trends. It felt good, and easy. It seemed like all those years from when I had to churn out article after article, interview after interview, was just the other day. I have a few more people to interview for this piece, then it will be done. Maybe those years on tech support, extracting information from people over the phone, helped keep the skills fresh.
